When Les Mills Extreme went looking to upgrade the old sound system in the main Group Fitness Gym in central Wellington, they knew any replacement system would need to be clean, clear, offer great coverage and be loud! They contacted Stu Clark from Sound Services in Wellington to come up with a solution.
Due to the very low ceiling and narrow sight lines in the gym (not helped by the projector also hanging from the ceiling), Stu came up with a “distributed line array” concept which used the FBT MUSE 210LA self-powered line array elements (2 x 10” and 2 x 1” drivers) in mini clusters (of 1 or 2), spread out over the room. The design was modelled in EASE and proved that coverage would be great, with plenty of SPL. In total, 7 boxes were used to achieve the final result.
Bass extension was handled by 4 x SUBLINE 18SA self powered front loaded 18” FBT subwoofers that were mounted under the stage and set up in cardioid mode to keep the bass off the stage and out the front.
The entire FOH system is controlled by an FBT DLM26 speaker processor.
Stage monitoring for the Instructors is handled by 2 x StageMaxX12 MA self powered 12”/1” coaxial wedge monitors which are clear and loud.
The Team at Les Mills are extremely happy and have had many very positive comments about the clarity and coverage of the new system. One customer even commented that the system was so clear, they were hearing lyrics in songs that they never had before.
The Gym is used nearly 24/7 and this system has proved to be a great performer.
